Fluxable Feedback - music to my ears and maybe yours need to hear it too?
I'm not just blowing my own trumpet, I'm sharing the feedback from my recent Fluxable Practitioner course to help you decide if you want to benefit from the learning.
Like all good education providers I included a feedback form with The Fluxable Practitioner course and I want to share it below because I think it might help you decide if you want to purchase the course recordings. It will help you to understand what the course focuses on and what is important for nutrition and cancer. It might also prompt you to work with a Fluxable Practitioner. You can find details on the new page I’ve set up to
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive as you can see from the graphs - I haven’t picked only the positive comments. And, although not everyone filled in the form, more than 17% did and it was pretty much all positive.
Obviously I can’t include every single comment but I have shared a fair representation. The extent to which what I’ve been teaching and writing is reflected back tells me the course is on message, and I like the way it has sparked reflection at a practitioner level too. Inevitably courses that deal with cancer challenge us at a personal level too, putting us in touch with our grief and fears, and sometimes that means that people realise that working with cancer patients is not for them. If I can help you make a clear-eyed decision, then I’m happy.
What did you learn?
An exciting understanding and a new perspective of the mitochondria.
The importance of AMPK vs mTOR, reverse Krebs, and I need to understand more ETC. Very tactical course - well done!
Zoom out and Zoom In - and reinforcing the need to be so cautious about supplementing. Acting in line with the patient’s drug mechanism and fully understanding that. And that a food first, coupled with personal spirit and energy are key approaches that can do wonders. Do not underestimate the power of lifestyle changes.
That’s hard, there are so many things! Probably to keep stepping back and use the longest lever and also to respect the very fine equilibriums that are at play so be wary of disrupting these with high dose of anything.
I am blown away by the amazing complexity and beauty of the mitochondria and in awe of the fact that our bodies don’t go wrong more often! It’s a miracle we are still here!
The role of ETC in cancer, to be wary of supplementing nutrients that feed into this part of the energy cycle and to focus downstream and on food. I like your approach, we aren’t medical so why pretend to be, I am much more comfortable supporting down stream of medicine.
Try to make it before you take it.
Looking after mitochondrial health and the impact too much energy from food, without activity damages them.
More knowledge and confidence - I understand the underlying mechanisms so much better now
Flux! The role of ketones, rather than high fat ketogenic diets.
Hope
Congratulations for an incredibly in-depth course that I will go back to many times over.
The quality and real world applicability of what you presented went above and beyond,
which was entirely to be expected. Could not recommend more highly.
Simona Sand, Teal Nutrition
How did it change your thinking?
I can see a clear role in how to support a client without stepping on medical toes and feel very clear about what I am trying to acheive
To really stop and think what pathways need attention and what mechanisms I’m trying to act on and simply why. What will this change for the patient. Less can be more.
I feel like I understand the metabolic processes involved more clearly and can see practical ways to translate this into practice.
Krebs cycle, forward Krebs, reverse Krebs... I’m surprised how little understanding I had before and how it all comes together now and makes total sense
Initially I was worried about how I would be able to use the concepts and whether I’d get bogged down in trying to explain things but actually I’ve found it very helpful and have had several really satisfying consultations since.
I previously felt uneasy about working with patients with a cancer history, and would probably have avoided them; however, I now feel that I have more knowledge and feel more prepared to work with this patient population.
I sometimes feel that I need to be more on it with knowledge of repurposed drugs, and complex things but I feel more confident that my food first approach is right
I am currently NED post breast cancer and feel that as I am not yet confident I am managing to look after myself optimally .....I feel I am not ready to help anyone else.
Thank you so much, the course was remarkable, and life changing.
I often see patients in recovery. I now have a much clearer understanding of what we’re trying to do and how to supplement with the lightest touch.
The course has deepened my understanding of the influences on the development and recovery from cancer. I am truly fascinated and deeply interested in the science, and will continue to be, yet I am now awakening and facing into whether I even want to be working as a practitioner.
You are an inspiration and your passion and knowledge are so integral to who you are and how you have worked.
I have also completed [another] course and found Fluxable, whilst still technically detailed in its explanation of metabolic flux, to be far more practical and, ultimately, more reassuring in terms of how to approach cancer care.
Mari Nash, Nutritional Therapist
What will you do differently?
To look more at the energy and the mitochondrial aspects of what I am trying to influence and one’s ability to be able to switch.
I am reviewing the testing that I use and also revisiting dietary protocols, especially re ketogenic diet.
I will do more genetic testing
Think much more carefully about supplements. I have been concerned about ‘green pharmacy - a supplement for an ill’ for a while, and the course encouraged me to discuss the pros and cons of supplements with patients more.
I think that the fluxable method is one I could and would/will take forward as it has benefits to overall health, not just cancer prevention/recovery.
My colleague I are going to meet more regularly to discuss things and make sure that the Fluxable conceits underpin our work. I’d already started to move away from feeling like I needed to explain every detail to educate my patients. This has given me even more confidence to do this.
I still feel that working with cancer is not my niche, but would like to keep up-to-date and knowledgeable in this area
I will focus more on food (more than I already did) and strive to understand better the things you taught us about, such as the ETC. I will probably focus on lifecode metabolics report more to understand more about their metabolism in addition to what I already do.
Focus more heavily on diet than supplements to bring about change. Put together some recipes (like the liver pate recipe) that they can incorporate into their day. Try to make protocols less overwhelming for clients.
Work with cancer patients in recovery with NT to tidy up diet and be able to explain what we’re doing and why.
Thank you so much for putting on the Fluxable Practitioner. I absolutely loved it and it sent me right down several rabbit holes this weekend.

What could have made the course better for you?
For my way of learning it was spot on!
I was only able to attend one day ‘live’, but that is just due to my personal commitments. It was very helpful to be able to watch the recordings straight after the live sessions.
It was a great experience, I could have listened to more
Even better?? It was brilliant the way it was, there was time enough for Q&A, everything was so well explained and you went over many parts again from a different angle so that we could easily see the linkage
Absolutely nothing! It was pitch perfect for me whether I was going to work in integrative oncology or not. I imagine, some mentoring and some more case studies would be useful for practitioners new to this space though.
I felt like the course was part 1 - i feel like it’s so complex that first bit that I need to go over and over it and learn in different ways to make it stick! Also when you talked about research - I would love to learn more about reading research and getting good at that aspect as you have done so much of this.
Also wanted to say a big thank you for the course, I learnt so much and your style is great, making complicated things easier to understand. Despite that, I will still need to watch the whole lot game to really get it to sink in!

What did you love?
Just great, an incredible amount of care and research had clearly gone into this course. Delivered so well with precision and warmth. Very special course. Thank you for taking the additional time to resolve my tech issues and get me registered. Thank you so much!
I really enjoyed the course - thank-you. I shall be revisiting it many many many times. I loved how you made it therapeutic. This is exactly why I dual-trained as a NT and physio and not a dietician or nutritionist. The art of being therapeutic is amazing to me.
Being able to re-listen to the recordings away from the laptop. I love to be able to download and relisten as it makes it more accessible at times when I can be watching a screen.
This was such a great course, with so much information. We need more courses at this level.
Thank you for how you explain things
This has been inspirational and makes me feel more optimistic about how we can support cancer patients.
Enjoyed and was pleased that nutrition was at the forefront
I really enjoyed your sessions. I felt like I was back learning at CNM, which I loved. I like your inclusive approach. I also like your stance on how NTs fit into the model for cancer support. My direct experience working to support my husband gave me so much knowledge in the practilities of supporting someone who is undergoing treatment. I totally agree that a lot of things we can do are small and may seem insignificant, but are important.
I loved the course, I found it really helpful, not just to learn more about cancer and help me practice safely with cancer patients, but also for my non-cancer patients, for myself and my own approach to my health. I’ve made some tweaks already.
Your teaching style is excellent, the content was very infomative and engaging, the graphics where particurly perfect for my style of learning
Sessions were well-balanced and a good length.
Dawn, you shared part of your knowledge in the most generous and accessible way - I’m sure we all felt so much wiser after the sessions. I definitely had so many aha-moments that I could’t stop smiling for the rest of the day
Thank you so much, the course was remarkable, and life changing.

Overall feedback
Dawn this is an excellent program and I completely agree with your desire to make nutrition real for cancer patients
10/10 - I cant wait for a follow up.
It was truly inspiring
Perfect for me, the simplicity of care
The known cellular universe has come alive in a way I couldnt quite grasp before. More please!
It was good quality CPD and very interesting!
Eleven points out of ten!!
You did a brilliant job! Especially trying to keep an eye on questions at the same time as presenting!
I really enoyed it thankyou!
Loved it and have recommended it to others already. Just need time to rewatch a couple of times! Thank-you
Phenomenal course. The content, the delivery, your clear stance and approach plus the science you presented. It was a privilege to be part of.
I loved the course, I found it really helpful, not just to learn more about cancer and help me practice safely with cancer patients, but also for my non-cancer patients, for myself and my own approach to my health. I've made some tweaks already.
I just want to reiterate how helpful I have found your course and how much of your philosophy chimes with my own. I have learnt so much and have so much more to investigate and explore further. Having followed your Substack for a little while now, I knew it would be good, but you have exceeded my expectations – thank you. More than anything, it has been so useful to focus on what can be done rather than what can’t, and to enable practitioners to understand where their limits are and how to practice safely. To me, this is key in all aspects of nutritional therapy, but the fear surrounding cancer (and of course, it is a very serious area of health) can result in patients not getting the support they need or, indeed, going elsewhere for information which may be unhelpful and even harmful.

MORE HELP WITH INTEGRATIVE ONCOLOGY
With more than twenty years of heroic effort to connect cancer patients to the information they need, the Yes to Life charity exists to guide you through the confusing options for care, fuelled by their determination to put the love back into oncology. Their site is overflowing with resources - don’t miss it.
The more we understand cancer, the more we see lots of different ways to change disease outcomes. The right plan for you will be designed around your diagnosis, your health history and your personal circumstances. It starts with getting the right medicine - not too much, not too little, just enough. And then it’s important to make diet and lifestyle choices that work in synergy.
Although I am very knowledgeable about cancer I am not a doctor and nothing I say or write is intended to diagnose or treat cancer. I am a firm believer that everyone who thinks they might have cancer needs to see a doctor and that, for most people, medical treatment is an essential part of recovery.
This site exists to share information and education about integrative oncology - the aspects of diet and lifestyle that may be able to support you before, during and beyond your treatment. The information is not intended to replace any cancer treatments or medical advice.
It is particularly important to understand that nutrition can be a powerful healing force. For that reason it also has the potential to undermine some of your medical treatment aims (which may include trying to kill cells rather than heal them). Please discuss any nutrition programmes, and especially any supplements, with your medical team.
Ask them for evidence of any contraindications and adverse interactions between what you are planning and what they are planning. Don’t be deterred by eye rolling. If your oncologist is not able to understand your need to do something to help yourself, find another one. There is plenty of evidence that diet and lifestyle are important.
There is no doubt that metabolic therapy can improve outcomes and we are learning that mind-body approaches are helpful to. Congruence is key. It’s vitally important that you feel happy and hopeful with your oncology protocol and that you are all working towards a healthy future together with all of your practitioners. Don’t settle for less.
If holistic and future-focussed collaboration is not available from your oncologist then I urge you to look further afield. Change to a different oncologist if you can, or stick with the oncologist you’ve got and find an integrative practitioner who understands your needs and can support you holistically. Whichever way you choose you can find a wide range of resources at Yes to Life.
Finding the right practitioner takes courage and effort at a time when your energy may be low, and it can make you feel as though you are being an awkward customer when everyone is doing their best to help you. But if ever you needed to advocate for yourself this is it: be respectful, talk to experts, ask questions, listen to the answers, stay curious, don’t be gullible- or intimidated. Do a bit of well-chosen reading around the subject, enroll your intuition, and get stuck in!
Hope is a vitally important of the equation. It sounds pedantic, but there is no such thing as ‘false hope’. Hope isn’t a fact, it’s a feeling; one that changes the molecules in your brain and pulls you towards a brighter future.

It is a truly excellent course - what a wonderful selection of feedback. It goes to show how many careful, curious and engaged practitioners you have inspired - imagine that ripple effect as we take what we have learned into our own clinics. Bravo!
